Our team is proud to welcome two phenomenal new interns who have joined Team SpeakEasy this summer — remotely, from across the country. It’s our absolute pleasure to introduce you Nate Culbert and Atmanah Parab!

Name: Nate Culbert
School: University of Chicago
Graduation Year: 2022
Major: Public Policy Studies / Sociology

What initially got you interested in politics?
While I’ve always paid attention to politics, I hadn’t considered working in the political space until I began taking classes within the public policy major. Studying the dimensions of policymaking, such as the political challenges of policy implementation, inspired me to get involved!

What brought you to SpeakEasy?
I enjoyed my first few professional experiences, all of which were in the marketing space. However, as I learned more about politics and policy, I grew interested in applying those marketing skills to the political arena. SpeakEasy was the place for just that, and I’ve loved every second!

What are your post-graduation plans?
Ah, my parents’ favorite question! I plan to work in the political space for a few years before (hopefully) attending law school. No timeline for the latter half of that sentence, though – just winging it for now!

What’s your favorite thing about interning at SpeakEasy so far?
Put simply, my time at SpeakEasy has been incredibly rewarding because my work feels important! It feels as though every task is vital, inching us closer to our shared vision of a progressive future. Of course, none of that would be possible without our incredibly knowledgeable and kind team!

What’s your first post-Covid trip or activity?
I would love to visit my best friend in New Orleans! It would be amazing to experience the city and see a bunch of live music with him.

Favorite local business?
A two-way tie between Waterloo Records and Breakaway Records, two fantastic record stores in the Austin area!

Name: Atmanah Parab
School: University of California, Davis
Graduation Year: 2022
Major: Political Science

What initially got you interested in politics?
Funny enough, it was high school speech and debate. Participating actively in speech and debate gave me this brand new level of political awareness that I hadn’t really gotten from just existing in the world or any of my other classes. I realized how inherent politics is to existence and that the only way to make certain things happen for the people that need it is politics.

What brought you to SpeakEasy?
I initially wanted to go into law but in the past two years, I’ve pivoted more towards studying business and marketing. SpeakEasy offered a unique opportunity to develop my skills as someone working in marketing and media but within the context of political tech. I immediately recognized that as something unique and exciting.

What are your post-graduation plans?
I plan to take a gap year (or two!) to work and get some job experience before deciding whether I want to pursue post-secondary education!

What’s your favorite thing about interning at SpeakEasy so far?
How kind everyone is! It’s an incredibly welcoming environment despite the fact that a lot is going on and I truly appreciate it!

What’s your first post-Covid trip or activity?
CONCERTS! So many concerts. And then hopefully visiting New York because I’ve never been and I really want to go, or maybe Thailand. All I really know is I want to travel everywhere I possibly can.

Favorite local business?
Mishka’s Cafe in downtown Davis.

Both Nate and Atmanah are eager to support the SpeakEasy team and help power campaigns across the country. Welcome to the team, and let’s get to work!
